I've been meaning to start my SFF (Science Fiction & Fantasy) and Philosophy YouTube channel for a while now. Here it is at long last! Check out my first video, leave me a comment and a like and help me grow this thing:
“Why so many YouTube channels, Park?!” Well, YouTube is weird and YouTube audiences are weird.
I have a decently successful YT channel called ParkNotes. From it's inception I had planned to make videos on my notebook and study methods as well as videos on philosophy and science fiction. But the notebook videos took off and now that's really all they want to see on that channel. I still slip in lots of philosophy but the main core of every video needs to be study-centric or folks won't watch--and since that's my main source of income nowadays, it's important to give the people what they want.
So, I decided to continue splintering off my interests and compartmentalizing them so I can build unique audiences for each. I know it seems odd to have so many different channels (I have like 9 😅) but it's the way to go.
So that brings me to Truth Suffers, my channel predicated on that ancient Fremen saying “Truth suffers from too much analysis”, courtesy of Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah. This is a channel where I help my audience discover truth and wisdom through science fiction and fantasy.
I have this hunch that lots of abstract thinkers and would-be humanist philosophers of the 20th century spent their time wrapping their ideas up in speculative fiction stories rather than in abstruse and rigorous metaphysical journal articles. So I want to explore this hunch by combining through lots of good SFF and bringing their best philosophical arguments into focus. Hopefully I can introduce my audience to their next great reads, help them appreciate their previous reads in new light, and teach some ancient, medieval, modern, and cutting-edge philosophy along the way.
I'm pretty excited about this project. If you have a book, movie, or TV show that you think I have to cover, let me know! If you want to see some of the videos I already have planned, make sure to watch the first Truth Suffers video.
Please do Westworld!!!
