Dune in June Zoom Book Club Session 1
Here's the Recorded Discussion of the First Half of Dune
We’re reading Dune in June (and some of July). I broke the book down into 6 equal parts and I’m writing 6 companion pieces for each part to help my readers explore some of the rich philosophical, mythical, archetypal, religious, and psychological themes more deeply. I’m also peppering in some of my favorite Dune artwork—that alone is worth reading the essays! There really is tremendous artwork surrounding Dune.
You can find all of the companion essays in this post below, I continually update it after I write the essays:
The Philosophy of Dune
I really love the SF novel, Dune. I can’t help it—Frank Herbert wrote a masterpiece! He also layered in lots of really fascinating philosophy all throughout the book and the more I read it, the more I find.…
All 6 of the essays are free for everyone. I may do some extra posts and I’m not sure if they will be exclusive for paid subscribers yet or not. But all of the Zoom Book Club calls are exclusively for paid subscribers. It might devolve into chaos to have them open to the public but also I want to give something exclusive and special to those who are helping me keep my lights on. A huge thank you to all of the paid subscribers!
So, if you want to join in on our next two Parker’s Ponderings Book Club Zoom calls, or just want to watch the recorded conversation, upgrade to a paid subscription. It will help me continue this kind of work, as well as my philosophy and notebooks work, and you’ll get a ton of exclusive content:
Preliminary essays working out the themes of each chapter of my forthcoming book, Journal Like a Philosopher. I post these in the Notebook Philosophy section of this publication. They are chalked full of practical, historical, and philosophical teachings on the different notebook methods I talk about on ParkNotes.
Exclusive essays I’ve presented at conferences (academic philosophy, academic theology, C.S. Lewis and Tolkien papers, journal articles etc.)
Exclusive video courses like my Systematic Theology course (8 lecture videos each an hour and a half)
Access to my digital commonplace book, Sayings of the Sages, where I continually share my favorite wise sayings that I’ve been collecting in my pocket proverbs commonplace book.
Way more but I’m getting tired of typing them all out—I jam a lot of value in for my paid subscribers lol.
So, do consider upgrading if you’re interested in any of that, or just want to support the work I do.
Below the paywall you’ll find the recoding of our fist Dune Book Club session, it’s an hour and a half of really fun and deep Q&A between some of my paid subscribers and myself as we discuss the first half of Dune. All of the participants (besides me) are reading through Dune for the first time! They had such great questions, I think you’ll get a lot out of it. Enjoy!
